Distance Learning, Telemedicine and Rural Development
RAIN Network is one of the oldest Internet services in the United States. Started in 1991 through National Science Foundation funding.
We have some very important and exciting projects for 2010. The Rural Community Broadband Project, working with USDA and Department of Commerce will open a new era of Internet access. I am honored to have taken part as a member of the grant review team for the Department of Commerce (NTIA). As part of our California Council for the Humanities "California Story" video project we held an exciting and informative interview with Mayor Lupe Alvarez of Guadalupe. The video will be online this week at our California Story web: go to http://www.rain.org/california-story to see the interviews with small farmers, rural community residents and community leaders. New videos will be added weekly for the next two months.
